The meeting began with formal introductions of the delegations, an exchange of business cards, and the presentation of a commemorative gift to the General Manager of Hotel Cardoso.
During the discussions, the SINTIHOTS Secretary-General emphasised that the union operates in accordance with International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions, particularly Convention No. 87 on freedom of association and Convention No. 98 on the promotion of collective bargaining. He also underlined the importance of strengthening the partnership with Hotel Cardoso, recognising Mozambique’s position as a hotel industry reference at local, regional, and international levels.
The Provincial Secretary, Gonçalves Zita, welcomed the new General Manager and reaffirmed the union’s willingness to cooperate with the establishment.
The Human Resources Director, Dr Emília, reported that the hotel currently employs 82 workers (40 women and 42 men), a reduction compared with the pre-pandemic period. She added that management remains focused on employee well-being.
The General Manager, Gonçalo Nuno Ferro, thanked the delegation for the visit and emphasised management’s openness to dialogue with the union. With more than 30 years of experience in the sector, he reported that the hotel was experiencing a positive period in terms of revenue, driven by strategic contracts, including one signed with the European Union army, valid until June 2026. He also expressed optimism about the future, linking the hotel’s prospects to the TOTAL project and the expectations surrounding Mozambique’s new administration.
The Hotel Trade Union Committee Secretary, Nelson, noted that approximately 85% of the hotel’s workers are union members and regularly pay their union dues. He also highlighted the positive relationship with management, which is based on ongoing communication.
The meeting concluded with words of appreciation from the SINTIHOTS Secretary-General, who announced that on the following day, 20 August 2025, the union would participate in negotiations on the minimum wage for the hotel sector.
