SINTIHOTS held the VIII Ordinary Session of the National Trade Union Council on 31 March 2026 in Maputo, with the participation of partner trade union organisations and Government representatives. The meeting unanimously approved the union’s main management instruments — the activity report, activity plan and budget, Congress rules of procedure, and regulations on hierarchy, standards and rules — as well as four resolutions convening and scheduling the VI General Assemblies, the VI Provincial Conferences and the VI Congress, and establishing the Central Office for the Preparation and Organisation of the VI Congress. The session also examined the union’s financial constraints and the impact of the post-election demonstrations of October 2024 on the sector, and adopted resolutions to strengthen trade union training and establish the SINTIHOTS anthem.
Following these decisions, SINTIHOTS began the second phase of preparations for the VI General Assemblies of Members in September 2026, after completing the first phase and holding, in August, training seminars for the Working Committees and Provincial Brigades.
The process began on 3 July 2026 with a meeting of the Central Office aimed at implementing the decisions of the National Secretariat, which had reviewed resolutions adopted by the Provincial Councils during the first stage of the electoral process. At that meeting, decisions taken by some provinces were validated or annulled following irregularities in compliance with the Electoral Regulations, and the launch of financial contributions to cover the costs of the VI Congress was announced.
Following completion of the initial phase — which included the overall timetable, the election of Provincial Secretaries, the establishment of Provincial Offices and Working Committees, and the General Assemblies at workplace establishments — the Central Office held an induction session for provincial structures to clarify questions regarding the next activities.
The union is now halfway through the period dedicated to revitalising and establishing trade union committees, recruiting members and negotiating workplace agreements, which runs until February 2027. The VI General Assemblies at workplace establishments will follow between March and June 2027, along with Provincial Council sessions to approve the documentation to be submitted to the VI Provincial Conferences, scheduled for September and October 2027, as a prelude to the VI National Congress.
SINTIHOTS reiterates that the success of the General Assemblies, Conferences and Congress depends on clear and timely planning, emphasising that this is a decisive moment for consolidating grassroots work among workers. As always, the union counts on the commitment of all provincial structures.
Together we are stronger. Unity, struggle and achievements!
