Maputo, 16 September 2026 — The Office for the Preparation of the Assemblies and the VI Provincial Conference held a training session on Wednesday in Maputo City for the Provincial Brigades responsible for supporting, conducting and supervising electoral processes, as part of preparations for the union’s VI General Assemblies of Members at workplace establishments and the VI Provincial Conference. The session was attended by 15 brigade members.

In his opening remarks, the Provincial Secretary for Maputo City and Province, Gonçalves Zita, highlighted the importance of this training in ensuring that brigade members perform effectively in the field. He emphasised that it is at the workplace level, among the members themselves, that the fairness, transparency and credibility of the electoral process are ultimately determined.

Throughout the training, emphasis was placed on the central role assigned to the Provincial Brigades under the SINTIHOTS Electoral Regulations: the Brigade is responsible for directing, conducting and supervising the process, announcing the results and proclaiming the winners at the General Assemblies of Members, as provided for in Articles 2, 17 and 18 of the Regulations.

Among other topics, the training covered the composition and mandate of the Provincial Brigade; its responsibilities before, during and after the electoral process; the correct sequence for electing the governing bodies of the Trade Union Committee; quorum calculation; the different voting systems; and the proper handling of potential complaints without compromising the validity of the electoral process.

Through this capacity-building initiative, SINTIHOTS strengthens the preparedness of its grassroots structures ahead of the General Assemblies of Members, Provincial Conferences and Congress, in a process guided by the union’s motto: “Together We Are Stronger!”
