Maputo, 30 September 2026 – SINTIHOTS – Maputo City and Province held the 9th Session of its Provincial Consultative Council, dedicated to reviewing activities carried out in August 2026. The meeting brought together 20 participants, including Secretaries of Trade Union Committees from various establishments and members of the Provincial Secretariat.
The session was chaired by the Secretary responsible for Trade Union Organisation and included the presentation of reports on visits to establishments, the reading and unanimous approval of the summary of the previous session, and the presentation of the results matrix for the activities undertaken.
Awareness-Raising Sessions Take Centre Stage
One of the key highlights of the review was the work carried out to raise awareness among workers. At Hotel Terminus, an awareness session on trade unionism was held, highlighting the importance of workers understanding their rights and responsibilities as members of the trade union organisation. The Trade Union Committee expressed its gratitude for SINTIHOTS' support.
Further awareness sessions were also planned for Hotel Rovuma, with the aim of encouraging newer employees to take an interest in trade union activities, and for Galayx Executivo, where procedures relating to disciplinary proceedings will be clarified.
Collective Bargaining and Labour Rights
At Casino Nautilus, collective bargaining negotiations resumed, although progress has been slow. The union called for greater flexibility and a faster pace in the negotiations.
At Hotel Terminus, SINTIHOTS will analyse and review the existing Collective Labour Agreement. It was also reported that, following a visit by the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), the establishment's management called in workers whose records required regularisation and instructed them to request their respective statements.
Positive news came from Pensão Escondidinho, where the employer clarified that the bonus would not be withdrawn from workers who are about to complete five years of service.
Union Dues: Greater Oversight and Transparency
The session paid particular attention to the collection and monitoring of union dues. Trade Union Committee Secretaries were reminded of the need to ensure that deductions made from workers' salaries are properly monitored and remitted to the trade union structure, supported by more organised information on the status of union dues at each establishment.
The creation of a platform was proposed to enable Secretaries to access and monitor the status of union dues at their respective establishments.
Next Steps
The Council reaffirmed the need to continue visiting establishments, conducting awareness sessions, and monitoring the work of Trade Union Committees, particularly in workplaces facing difficulties in mobilising workers, pending negotiations, or unresolved labour rights issues.
The next session will address plans to hold an activity at the SINTIHOTS Protocol House in Ponta do Ouro, scheduled for November 2026.
